Under the auspices of Partner for just Trade organization, Sonia Anathema Uscamayta a jewelry maker from Lima, Peru visited the U.S. to speak about her work and the difference Fair Trade wages has impacted her life. During her visit, she conducted workshops in many cities where she spoke about her experiences working with the Munay Rumi Jewelry Cooperative in Lima, Peru. She is a founding member of the cooperative which was created after experiencing serious exploitation locked in a factory under appalling working conditions! Preparing for the trip to the United States was a great trek in itself for Sonia. She walked 4 hours from her hometown then 8 hours by bus to Lima's int airport then flew for an additional 18 hours to CA. In these pictures she demonstrates her talent in jewelry making: a process from start to finish!
